What Not to Do After Getting a Hair Transplant
You have decided to have a hair transplant. What are the restrictions after the procedure?
1. We ask that you refrain from strenuous activity for at least the first week. By strenuous activity, we mean that you may not participate in activities such as heavy lifting, running, or weight lifting. Strenuous activity will raise your blood pressure and may result in the grafts not taking well.
2. You will not be able to wash your hair until two days after your procedure and will need to adhere to our specific hair-washing guidelines to protect your grafts.
3. You may not have extended sun exposure of your scalp for the first six weeks after your procedure. Sunscreen may be used after the first two weeks and a hat may be worn beginning two weeks after the procedure, which will provide better protection from the ultraviolet rays of the sun. For this reason, you will not want to plan a sunny beach vacation soon after your procedure!
4. You may begin wearing a hat two weeks after the procedure, only if the hat does not come in contact with the grafts and potentially disrupt them. For this same reason, a hairpiece may not be worn if it comes in contact with the grafts.
You should think of your grafts as newly sown seeds on your scalp. Any action that could displace these grafts will lead to a poor result!
