The hugely popular series Downton Abbey premiered this week on PBS. For those not in the know it is an English TV series set in the early 20th century in England. It follows the lives of an aristocratic family and their servants. The series has won multiple awards for its accurate depiction of early 20th century life including outstanding costumes which included the use of wigs.
Starting the in late 1600s powdered wigs became the rage for men of the upper echelon of society. There are several theories as to why these became more popular. Some historians believe it had to do with venereal diseases that lead to baldness. By the time that Downton Abbey is supposed to have taken place these long powdered wigs were falling out of fashion and short hair was the style.
Today wigs are still an option for hair loss. Many large hair restoration companies are actually owned by wig making companies. Fortunately with advancement in medical science men with male pattern hair loss do not need to resort to wigs to restore their hair. Hair transplantation with the NeoGraft is a permanent solution to hair loss. Your own hair is used, so a more natural look is achieved.
